The Five Oddest Last Minute Brighton Removals We've Done

When people think of Brighton removals, they often picture boxes, beds and sofas. But every now and then, we get a call that throws the usual plan out the window and reminds us why we love what we do. These are five of the oddest, most memorable last minute removals we’ve ever done at ESV Removals Ltd, from goldfish to gallery launches and even a pub piano.

Jordan’s Emergency Fish Tank Evacuation

This Brighton removals job came in on a rainy Wednesday afternoon. Jordan called in a panic. His landlord had given him 24 hours to leave his flat due to a plumbing emergency. The problem? A six-foot tropical fish tank full of exotic fish.

We responded quickly. Using buckets, oxygen tablets and a lot of towels, we carefully relocated the tank and its many colourful residents across Brighton. One goldfish even rode in the front of the van with us. Jordan was over the moon. This was one of our most delicate and rewarding removals in Brighton to date.

The Brighton Break Up Flat Removal

Another classic example of how unpredictable Brighton removals can be. At 10am, we got a call asking if we could help someone move right now. By half eleven, we were outside a shared flat in Kemptown. A woman was moving out while her ex sat inside watching daytime TV. We packed up everything, including a half-built wardrobe, in under two hours.

She tipped us with bacon sarnies and shared a playlist while we refuelled. It was a short Luton van job, but proof that last minute Brighton moves don’t have to be stressful when you’ve got the right team.

The Van Gogh Art Removal

This Brighton removals story comes from the city’s creative heart. A local artist had just secured a pop-up gallery space and needed to move over thirty canvases and several fragile sculptures, all within a few hours.

We packed and moved everything without a scratch, earning ourselves an invite to the gallery launch that same evening. Since then, we’ve helped move art collections to Dublin and Paris through our international removals service. If it’s creative, heavy or delicate, chances are we’ve moved it.

The Pub That Had A Piano Removal

Brighton removals can get unusual fast, and this Sunday pub job was no exception. A landlord needed a real upright piano picked up and delivered across town before the evening’s entertainment started.

We brought straps, extra hands and optimism. That evening, we listened to that very piano being played with a pint in hand. We’re not professional piano movers, and in this case the item wasn’t high in value, but we still treated it with full care. Brighton has a booming trade in vintage instruments, so if you’ve got something a bit quirky, let us know in advance and we’ll work with you.

The Surprise Eviction Removal with a Hamster

Our final entry in the Brighton removals odd jobs list comes from a last minute student move. He returned from a weekend away to find an unexpected eviction notice waiting. We arrived that same evening and helped pack everything in under two hours.

The twist? His pet hamster George rode up front with us the entire time. George became our mascot for the week. It just goes to show, no move is too small, too strange or too rushed for us to handle.
