House moves in Shoreham-by-Sea, Shoreham Beach and Southwick, planned around the river crossings, permit areas and riverside blocks.
From beach-side properties and town centre flats to family homes across BN43, good planning can make a big difference to how calm and organised moving day feels. We look at access, parking and property layout in advance so there are fewer surprises when the van arrives.
Shoreham Beach moves need different planning from the rest of BN43, especially where the property sits off Lower Beach Road or near Beach Green. The Adur Ferry Bridge connects the town side to Shoreham Beach, which shows how distinct that part of Shoreham is in practice. The Ferry Bridge is for walkers and cyclists only, so the van reaches the beach the long way round over the Norfolk Bridge on the A259, and we check where it can stop on the beach side before the day.
Adur's resident permits cover a handful of residents-only car parks in Shoreham, including 60 Brighton Road and Riverside on Shoreham Beach, rather than on-street permit zones. A removal van can't use those car parks, so if you live beside one we plan a legal stop on the street nearby, and arrange a suspension or dispensation with the council ahead of moving day if space is tight.
Shoreham is not just older residential streets. Riverside and harbour-side areas can come with more structured parking, managed access and a different feel from the centre, so we plan around the location properly. Along Brighton Road east of the centre, Free Wharf has added 540 homes in ten buildings of four to nine storeys, the first part of the Western Harbour Arm regeneration, so a move there usually means booking the lift and loading area with the managing agent first.
Adur's resident permits only cover a few residents' car parks, not on-street zones, so the challenge is finding a legal stop close to the door. Where space is tight, Adur & Worthing Councils can suspend a bay with at least 5 working days' notice, at £40 per 10 metre bay, enough for a Luton. For a shorter job, a dispensation costs £20 a day and lets a working van use free limited waiting bays or yellow lines near your property.
Around the High Street and St Mary de Haura church, the town centre is a mix of Victorian terraces and flint cottages with narrow fronts and tight stairs, where a Sprinter can often get closer than a Luton. Old Shoreham, up by St Nicolas church and the old toll bridge, has older cottages and larger houses on quieter roads, and the streets further north towards the Downs are mostly family homes with driveways.
Yes. Southwick runs east from Shoreham along the harbour, with older cottages around Southwick Green and 20th century houses climbing the hill behind, and Fishersgate sits beyond it towards Portslade. Lancing, just west across the river, has its own page. Shoreham is about 25 to 30 minutes from our Burgess Hill base.
