Peacehaven is shaped by the South Coast Road, with much of the town's movement, shopping and day-to-day access tied to the A259 corridor. Most avenues meet it at simple crossroads, so we plan the van's approach from the side road rather than turning across the coast road in heavy traffic. Because so much local traffic and routing runs through that spine road, we plan loading, van position and timing properly before moving day rather than treating it like a simple suburban move.
Central Peacehaven moves often need more thought because the Meridian Centre sits at the heart of the town and brings together shops, services, community facilities and a large public car park. It was built inland in the 1970s to take pressure off the South Coast Road, so it pulls traffic up into the middle of town. That makes moves around the centre feel different from quieter residential streets, so we plan around the layout, parking and loading route early.
Peacehaven's cliff-top setting gives many homes a very different feel from a standard inland move, with the town stretching along the coast between the sea and the South Downs. On the roads south of the A259, homes run almost to the cliff edge, where the wind off the sea makes carrying mattresses, glass and large flat items harder than people expect. That local layout means route planning, access and wind-exposed loading can matter more, especially for larger family moves.
Peacehaven has no residents' permit zones, and most homes have a driveway or a clear stretch of road outside, so loading is usually straightforward. Parking is run by East Sussex County Council, and in the few places where the van has to wait on a yellow line for more than 20 minutes, a waiver costs £6.50 per six metres per day.
Peacehaven was laid out in 1916 on a grid, with Roads running east to west and Avenues north to south, so most addresses are easy to find and easy to reach. The town is mostly bungalows and chalet bungalows on rectangular plots, which keeps the unload quick, with no stairs and furniture going straight into the right room. Newhaven is a few minutes east along the A259, and Rottingdean and Saltdean are just beyond Telscombe. Peacehaven is about 35 minutes from our Burgess Hill base.
